World War Two Evacuees

Experience first hand what it was like for children during WWII to be evacuated to rural areas of Britain and enjoy a Celebratory VE Day Party and After Dinner Entertainment.

Air Raid Warden warning of oncoming bombing raid

Wartime Cooking - 1/4 day

Learn about the scarcity of food and rationing. Use recipes from the war to prepare food to eat.

Wartime Drills  – 1/4 day

Work with the air raid wardens and fire fighters to practice drills such as using the stirrup pump to put out fires as well as making incendiary bombs safe. Shelter from an air raid in our very own Anderson Shelter. Sing songs whilst the bombs land above you. Spend time handling artefacts from the period.

Firefighting Drill

Drama Workshop – 1/4 day

Spend time exploring the impact of leaving home and living life as an evacuee through drama and role paly.

The Schoolroom for Evacuees – 1/4 day

Learn what it was like to go to school during the war and write letters home with a dip pen and ink to reassure your parents that all is well. Handle real money from the period and attend an arithmetic lesson adding and subtracting £ s d!

VE Day Party and Games or Who Dunnit Mystery – evening

Celebrate the end of the war in Europe by enjoying a meal from the period listening to Winston Churchill and the music of Glen Miller. After dinner, investigate a wartime who dunnit mystery or celebrate VE Day playing some favourite party games of the era.

Code Breaking – evening

Make your way to our very own Station X, learn about various ways of constructing codes and practise your skills at code breaking. Decipher messages transmitted in Morse Code.

Museums – ½ day

Choose to visit one of these museums to help bring WWII equipment and artefacts to life. Transport not included.
